Saying Good-bye to 2009

I have spent a lot of time this holiday sitting in this chair.  It is my favorite spot this year.  I love how the lights sparkle off of the decorations.  And from this spot I can see my whole living room with the tree, the toys and even a bit of the outside neighborhood with their houses decorated and glowing in the warmth of the season.

Today, I have been trying to think of how best to say good-bye to 2009, but nothing is coming to me.  So, instead I will just write a little post thinking of the things that have happened this year.

In some ways it wasn’t the best year, but in others it was a great year.  I said good-bye to an old Friend and a beloved Uncle.  We missed out on our annual trip to Regina due to changes in the economy and school. But, were blessed with a surprise trip East from the Regina contingent. We made it on our annual trip to the Beach  and still felt like it wasn’t long enough. Our annual trip next year is hoping to be a little longer.

We had a wonderful week with our Cousins from the South in Ottawa and were thankful that we were able to attend a 50th Wedding Anniversary of our Aunt and Uncle. We were blessed with a trip to California to meet friends that I only ever dreamed of meeting.  And a little visit to Disney was just icing on the cake.

I finally took the chance and started my long dreamed of photography business, it has been a good year for making dreams come true. I am thankful for all the families, Moms-to-be and new babies I got to capture.  I am also thankful for being chosen to document some wonderful weddings and beautiful women. Without all of you, my dreams would still be just that, dreams.

I hope that 2010 brings me closer to some of the friends I have made and been reacquainted with in 2009.  My hope is that it brings happiness and joy to all my friends and family.  And that we are all blessed in the Year to come.  And a thank you to all my readers, you have all been there for me and I wish you all the best that 2010 has to offer.  I will be celebrating my 5th Anniversary of blogging next year, it’s been a wild ride and oddly enough I have now been blogging longer than I was in High School.

Until 2010,

BeachMama.

You know what time of year it is?  Get back into the groove time.

I was really doing well this past fall, then took a break in running for a bit.  Just when I had started up again, I rolled my ankle getting our Christmas tree, which derailed me for almost everything for a good two weeks.  My ankle is still tender, and I expect it will be for a while, but I have managed two good 5k runs in the last week and am confident I can jump as we were having a jumping party with the kids the other night.

I have a few new plans and goals for working out and bringing back Workout Wednesday is the first step.

Second, Hubby is training for the Ottawa Race Weekend Marathon  and at first I was just going to run the 5k, but I think I am going to surprise him by running the 10k.  Shhh… don’t tell him, I love shocking him with my actual running abilities and although I never thought I would want to run more than 5k.  Since I have been running 5k for a while now, I feel the urge to keep going, so I know I can do it.

Third, I have a couple of different training programs I would like to review.  I have heard good things about them, but want to try them out myself before making recommendations.

And this, is the beginning of bringing back Workout Wednesdays.  If you want somewhere to share your weekly workouts, to feel you have somebody to be accountable to this is the place to do it.  If I only manage to encourage you to move for an extra 15 minutes a day, then I am happy.  And for me, I need the accountability too! So grab your running shoes and some great music and get your body moving into 2010.

“B”

Last Spring I told you of the loss of an old High School friend Kirk “Big B” Ellard. He has been missed by many, but through his music he lives on. His brother, former band mates and friends organized a benefit concert that was held last night at Greenfield’s Pub in Barrhaven in his honour.

The first band of the set, Sal Piamonte Band. Great band, we had never heard them before, but were totally amazed.

When I asked Hubby if he wanted to go with me for a trip down memory lane, he was all for it. Of course, as the day went on yesterday with all the ice and the warmth of our house, it was a little harder to get him out the door, but once we were there we were both remembering why we love watching live bands play.

We were so thrilled to see all the guys come together to play their old tunes. If you grew up in my neck of the woods (Nepean) in the mid ’80s then I am sure you had at least heard of Fatal Mistake, if not actually heard them play. Into the ’90s they became Soul Tattoo and ironically my girlfriend and I saw them play at Barrymore’s when we decided we needed to see some good live music. I missed them play in Winnipeg when I lived there, only because I didn’t know they were there. Otherwise, I would have been right there.

From the original band of Fatal Mistake and Soul Tattoo: Jason Throop on drums, Matt Minter on vocals and Keith Ellard on guitar.

Greenfield’s was packed to a sold out audience and people waiting outside to get in.

I don’t know this singer, Luigi C. Saracino, but just look at him sing. He was so powerful and we really enjoyed this set.

Truthfully, it was a really awesome night. I got to see some old friends from school and remind Hubby of the people I used to hang out with. You see whenever we go out we run into people from High School that were Hubby’s age (he is 3yrs older) but rarely run into my old friends. Well last night it was payback, he got to be bombarded all in one night. For more photos from this set head over to my flickr page, there are a few more posted there.

And Thank you guys, for a wonderful Tribute and Celebration.
