Workout Wednesday is going to be brief today, for two reasons. One, Apple has been sick for a couple of days and I am pooped and two it is ridiculously beautiful outside.
This week was pretty good, despite Apple being sick, which really drains me. I managed two 5km runs, and missed the 30 minute mark by 5 seconds. I pushed myself, but had a pain in my ankle and had to slow it down for a couple of minutes. I also got in two good weight training sessions. I did two long programs, which works out to 40 minutes of weights and strength exercises.
Today’s tip: Get outside!
No need for photos today, strap on your running shoes, put your kids in the stroller and go for a walk. It is absolutely beautiful out there. And tomorrow is supposed to rain, so get out while you can stay dry.
If you are at work, take that 15 minute break that you never take and go for a quick walk outside, you won’t be sorry. The fresh air and warm sun on your face will rejuvenate you for the rest of the day.
What are you waiting for? Go!

I have written before about J and school. And how he is so much like I was. Well, today I got to see him in action at school. This was the first time I was able to help out this year as his first teacher, who retired at Christmas, didn’t have anyone in. And this second teacher wasn’t asking either, so several of us just told her we were going to come in.
First I must say this, his teacher deserves a medal. Some of the kids in his class are just out of control. And I mean, seriously out of control, should be sent for a time out in the corner or something out of control. Or maybe they just need a hug, I don’t know. You know what I do know. They need a hug. They need attention. One on one attention that they don’t have to share with a sibling or another parent. These kids are crying out.
As a result, my Son is getting left behind. Not only him, but the few boys in the class that behave and are scared silly to upset the teacher so they don’t participate, they don’t sing along, they just sit criss-cross applesauce and listen. The difference from last year to this year is truly amazing. I have noticed it all year long, but at least now I can pinpoint what is actually going on and encourage him a little more appropriately. In addition I can make sure I offer my help each and every week, if I have to. If by me helping out means the teacher can give more attention to all the kids and rest easier in the evenings and be better prepared for them the next day, then I will do it. I need my Mom’s help with Apple, but that’s ok because she knows that it is for J.
I do hope that next year will be better, otherwise I might just be signing up for some homeschooling. Either that or switching to a private school, will have to see how it goes. Either way I am ready.
Even though J was sick for the first five days of March Break, we were able to end it in much better fashion. Hubby took Thursday and Friday off so that we could all hang out and on the menu was a trip to the Sugar Bush.

We decided to go Friday morning, although it was sunny, it was pretty cold. We packed up early and were on the road to Fulton’s in Pakenham by 8:30am. It’s a 45 minute drive and we wanted to be there as close to opening as possible, being that it was March Break and Friday.

We have gone to Fulton’s quite a few times now, but this year we had to admit we found breakfast to be a bit pricey for the actual quantity of food we got. We had to go back and buy a couple extra pancakes!

We took in the sleigh ride, taffy on snow, the play structure, the cooking room and breakfast. By the time we had finished all of that J’s feet, which were in rubber boots, were cold and it was time to head home. In time for a play date with J’s friend.

Hubby was kind enough to stop beside the old stone bridge in Pakenham. It is the oldest five span bridge in North America, built in 1901. It is actually quite beautiful, but I was freezing taking photos beside the rushing water, so I snapped off a few and vowed to go back in the Summer when it is warmer.
