Tropical Greenhouse

I had this brilliant idea today. I was going to take J and Apple to the tropical greenhouse at the Experimental Farm here in Ottawa. I was under the assumption (not sure why) that it was quite large and had butterflies. After driving in circles, including driving by it once, we arrived.

J was excited and Apple had awoken from her nap already. We started on our tour.

Then the magic words came out of my mouth. “J, don’t touch.” At least ten times. He wanted to touch a cactus.

And guess what.

He touched it.

One that didn’t look prickly, but had those invisible little hairs that get stuck and hurt forever. And me without bandaids today (because J used them all up). We had to turn around and go home. It would seem though, that we actually saw all of the greenhouse. It was rather small and there were no butterflies. The good news is that we were alone with my screaming son and it didn’t cost us anything more than the gas in the truck.

And on the way home, J sobbing in the backseat says, “Mommy, I wish we had never gone to that horrible place”. To which I replied, “And I wish J that you had listened to me when I told you not to touch the cactus.” Hopefully next time he will listen to me.

Now to figure out where on earth those butterflies are.

So much goin’ on.

Our visit has been very full and very tiring. My Sister, who just had a baby a week and a half ago, by c-section, was involved with a Conference. Shine. I thought we were only attending on Saturday for a couple of hours, since she should have been resting. But, Friday morning, not only did she wake up refreshed and anew, but she informed me we were going to a dinner that night and would be there all day on Saturday. I not only was unprepared, but I needed something to wear. Off to go shopping!!

I don’t have any photos of me in my new dress or new skirt, but I do have one of my Sis in her new dress, with our Mom and baby (Did I mention he was 11lbs 1oz at birth???).

Here is one of myself and a few of the nice ladies we met. Speaking of which. At Friday’s dinner, a beautiful woman was sitting with us and we got chatting. And talk about small world of all small worlds. Other than my Sister, at that time I only knew one other person in Regina. Anna Banana. So this beautiful woman is telling us about her friend. And all of a sudden I said, “Are you talking about Anna Banana??” and she says yes! So here we were sitting at the same table out of over 500 women, how crazy is that? She too has a blog so you will all have to go over and say hi to her. HEY MELANIE!! Unfortunately I did not take a photo of us together, I am hoping to see her again before I go, so if I do we will be sure to get a photo.

Sunday was Ballet recital day. We attended last year and GR was thrilled that we were attending again this year. J has been talking about going to the ballet for weeks. We were a little worried that the two boys were going to be out of control. But, the lights went out and they were perfect gentlemen. Discussing the different dances and the scenery and lighting. If we can keep them appreciating the ballet all through their lives two women will be absolutely thrilled to be married to these two. GR was a frog this year and what a cute frog she was. Having watched her first recital three years ago, it is truly amazing to watch how graceful she has become . She is well on her way to becoming a fabulous performer and I cannot wait for next years performance.

Monday has been jam packed. We sent Mom on her way back home, Sis watch GR in concert at school this morning while I watched five, count them, five kids, two of which are under 9 months. I did it and am still here to talk about it!! Then we went out to meet some wonderful blogging ladies and capped it of with a trip to the Corner Gas set. All this will have to wait for tomorrow as I am beat and haven’t unloaded the camera yet.
