Back to School 2011

J and Apple headed back to school. J last week and Apple this week. So we had two first days to celebrate.

Unfortunately J wasn’t in the mood for photos, I think he was a bit nervous for first day. At his school they have to all cram into the gym and find their name on a list under the teachers name, not the best scenario to start the new year. He has to go not knowing who his teacher is or who is in his class. It can lead for a very disappointed first day. Thankfully, it all worked out and the new Principal is looking to changing things up for next year.  There has to be a better way to start the school year off.

Apple on the other hand knew who her teacher was going to be and went in to meet her last week. So she was ready and primed for the first day.

Off she went without a look back to Mom and Dad who were waiting by the fence.  Then she listened to her instructions from her teacher, with the look of… ok just tell me so I can go and play, thanks.

As Hubby said before we left for school yesterday, ‘this is it, all of our kids are at school and they will never again have the freedom they have had, they will always have to be at school or at work forever.’ Of course I did respond that they could become millionaires and take care of Mom and Dad in their old age and never have to work again… there is hope…

Cake Raffle Time

It is time once again for the Annual school Cake Raffle.  It was actually held yesterday, but I didn’t get a chance to blog about it.  This year was by far the easiest one yet. I saw it in a magazine, showed it to J and that was what he wanted.

Cake Raffle

Last year, we had the mud and worm cake, the year before we had the palm trees by the beach and the first year we had the bug cake (which I still hear about from the lady who’s child one that one).

Normally, the cake raffle is held on the Friday before March Break, which is a significant time in the year for me meaning that we are almost done. Having it almost a month earlier was a little trying as now I wish we were on March Break.

Cake Raffle

To show you how easy this was to make, I can tell you how in just a few brief steps. I cheated this year and used a cake mix and store bought icing. I baked it in two circular pans, frosted between the layers and then cut out the swimming pool. Then I iced the rest. Instead of making the jello in the cake like I did two years ago, I cheated again and bought premade jello (this was J’s idea actually) and then just mixed it up and scooped it into the hole I made for the pool. I then decorated the cake with candies that J asked for. All in all it took me very little time.

Cake Raffle

You cold make this for a birthday party or really, just for fun.  J was disappointed he didn’t come home with a cake again yesterday, but I keep telling him we can always make another one.

I cannot wait for the craziness that is this Summer to end.  Fall arrives in two weeks and I hope that all will be back to normal, well as normal as possible by then.

Saturday we celebrated Apple’s third birthday.  I was asked to shoot a wedding with CL Buchanan Photography on Saturday and just didn’t want to pass that opportunity up.  Hubby and I decided that Apple wouldn’t really remember me not being there and we would have her party on Sunday.  So really, she got two birthdays.

We served her cupcakes for breakfast after having present opening in bed.

Birthday Girl

The plate hadn’t hit the table and the candles were out.

Birthday Girl

She had a fabulous day as did I. Sunday we had the Grandparents and cousins over so she got to have a whole second day of presents and cake, which was what it was all about.  Well that and singing Happy Birthday over and over and over again.

Move over Birthdays (for now) and hello to first day of school. J was excited as was Apple.  She really wanted to join her big brother but we kept telling her that she had to be four.  One more year.

J was handsome as ever and eager to see who was in his class.  He thankfully got a class inside and not in a portable and one of his best buds is in his class, for that I am thankful.  He loves his teacher and is enjoying having gym every day. So far so good, he is loving school.  I just hope we can keep that momentum going until June.

First day of School

I hope you have all been keeping up with your 100’s?  Workout Wednesdays aren’t done, just haven’t had time to blog about it.  Either I get to exercise or I get to blog and well, my gut says I need to exercise right now. Keep going with them, I will have a new challenge for you next week.

It would also be terrible of me not to acknowledge that today is my Sister’s (40….something…) birthday!  Happy Birthday big E!  Love ya.  And without Mom and Dad who have been married for 44 years today, we wouldn’t be having birthday wishes for any of us.  Love you Mom and Dad. 44 year who would have ever thought?

Life is Good…
