A Little March Break Fun

The guys with their truck were gone by 9pm, onward on at least a five hour journey home.  We had fun watching the tow truck driver inch the rig around the corner.  Thank you so much for your compliments.  I know that if I had had somewhere to go I would probably have been a lot less helpful, but with nowhere to go and knowing how silly they already felt I put myself in their shoes.  I also thought about a fellow blogger’s Dad, not that he would have gotten stuck.  He would have most likely had the foresight to investigate before attempting the turn, but these young guys just figured their rig wouldn’t get stuck.  Anyhow, I thought of SAJ’s Dad and I know that if he was out there, I would have done the same if not more.

March Break is almost over and although it feels like we have done so much it also feels like we have done nothing at all.  After so much fun in the huge amounts of snow, the novelty has worn off.

We took Apple for her 6 month check up.  She is growing steadily and although she is big for her age, she is small in comparison to J at 6 months, so it is hard to remember that he was really, really large.  Apple is starting to crawl.  I was too tired to pull out the camera for that tonight, but I will try to catch her tomorrow.  The time is near to clear up all the little fiddly things and baby proof at least the family room and kitchen.

After Apple’s check up I took J bowling with his best bud from school.  He was really great!  I did not think I was going to have to bowl but we were a bit late, so I left Apple in the stroller and threw a few.  I forgot how much fun it can be to throw a ball at some pins, very refreshing.  Here’s a photo of J taking his first toss.  And just like me, he was doing a little dance after each throw.

Today found us visiting with some of my girlfriends I have known for years and their kids.  Thankfully there was an older boy for J to play with and us ladies got to chat with the babies on our laps.

Now we have to decide what we are going to do with out last official day of March Break.

Skating Fun!

We made it!! A little worse for wear and a little out of shape (mostly me) but we made it to Winterlude.  The weather on Sunday was a real mix.  By the time we packed up the truck with everyone and everything it was almost 10:30am and sunny.  When we arrived at Dow’s Lake the weather had turned to windy and cloudy.  In fact I thought it was going to rain for most of our skate.  But, it didn’t.  We set out with the wind at our backs.  I kept telling Hubby and A that I wouldn’t be able to keep up with their pace, but set out like it was the Indy 500 or something.  We had barely made it across the Lake when I was panting and out of breath.  Not my idea of a leisurely skate on the canal.  But, we were all out as a family, so I for one was not going to complain.

The first photo up top is at our stop point.  We are in front of Fifth Avenue, which isn’t even halfway down the canal.  If you look closely at my face I am beet red, out of breath and soaking wet from sweating so hard.  J got out of his chariot for a few minutes to run around.  He kept trying to talk to me, with the wind in my ears and the hat on my head it was hard enough to hear him let alone answer.  Apple slept the entire time.

The first half was wonderful, even if it was fast.  We stopped caught our breath and headed back.  Well, the wind was in our faces creating a wind dam against the stroller (which was carrrying 70+lbs of kids).  The ice was a bit rough for a stretch so I could barely skate, it was more of a walk/skip over the cracks and potholes.  Hubby hurt his ankle and thought he could help by pushing too.  Except it was harder to push with him pulling at the same time.  And by this point I needed the stroller to keep me up right.  So onward we went, apparently still trying to keep up with some imaginary marathon.  When we finally reached Dow’s Lake again, the ice was smooth and I was able to skate the last stretch without the stroller and enjoy.  It was a rough hour and a bit, but I was just so happy to have us all out there.

The next photo is at the beginning when we were all still fresh and  raring to go.  Please note the teenager, without proper winter attire.  He also dressed J who did not have his scarf and neck warmer.  We didn’t notice until we were at the canal, thank goodness I brought my scarf and he was able to use it on the way back.  I did not get my Beavertail, so I plan to make another trip during the week.

Getting our sillies out

J, Apple and I were having fun with the ‘photo booth’ application on my computer.  I know this isn’t our best side, but it was truly hilarious.  J and I were laughing so hard I was crying.  And well poor little Apple had no idea what on earth we were doing.  We took about twenty photos before we were finished.  One day I will pull them all together into a photo album just to remember how much fun we had being silly.

Can I also say that I am now officially a knitting addict?  It all started with a hat.  Actually it started with a book about hats that turned into a complete addiction.  Apple doesn’t have her own hand knit blanket.  J has three but is only willing to temporarily lend the one that he never uses to her for the car.  She is constantly grabbing his blankets and staring at his blankets and so I started knitting one.  What you see above is one weeks worth of knitting.  By the time I am finished it will be summer, but that’s ok because she will still need a blanket in the summertime.  I really enjoy that I have something to keep my hands busy, but I may have to take a break for a few days to get caught up on a few items on my to-do list.

My to-do list could be a blog post on its own, it is two whole pages long.  And that is lined paper, not just a note pad.  I have already crossed off a couple of cleaning to-do’s.  Like the loft.  Our never ending clutter room.  That is the room that houses my work table, Hubby’s desk and the kids desk.  Everything get put there for sorting.  Piles of paper, stuff without a home.  So together Hubby and I cleaned it up this Sunday.  It was great because I cannot be crafty surrounded by clutter. Today I tackled two cupboards in the kitchen.  All of a sudden I realized that there was a whole shelf us stuff I hadn’t touched since we moved in here almost three years ago.  Today was garbage day so off it went. And now the shelf has become the chip shelf so the chips no longer have to reside on top of my pots and pans.  I am so happy!   The rest of my to-do is pretty much crafty projects I want or need to complete.  I have a few new ideas floating around and can’t wait to finish my blanket so I can give them a try.
