Back to School

The last month has just flown by and I have so many stories to share.  But, the biggest thing occupying my mind right now is the fact that J is going back to school.  And not just wimpy half day Kindergarten where they get to play and play and play some more.  This is the real deal.

Tonight marked a milestone for me, I made J’s first lunch for school. I am sure there is way too much in his lunch box, but I would be just devastated if he were at all hungry during the day.   Our school is part of the balanced school day program.  Instead of two recesses with snack and one lunch break they have two longer nutrition breaks.  One around 10am and the other around 1pm.  So J has basically two lunches.  I tried to cover all the food groups in addition I baked his favourite oatmeal cookies, a little love from Mama.

Tomorrow morning will mark milestones for both J and I.  He will be gone all day long, learning from somebody else. A big deal for both of us and poor little Apple, what is she going to do without her brother all day long?  I am guessing that tomorrow will be a long, long day.

Good luck, to you and to him! You will (both of you) adjust faster than you think!

YUM, that looks like a great meal(s) to me!

I remember when Jack went, it is a big change, hang in there, you will get used to it. I can’t guarantee Apple with though 🙂

This post really made me teary-eyed, Anna. Making your son’s first lunch for his first day of grade 1! Great that you took a picture. It’s really emotional, isn’t it? Aww. I am freaked out still about Christos starting kindergarten, which is still a week away…

Where did you get the lunchbox? It looks fabulous. We sent our wee little Grade One boy off this morning with his first lunch too — a massive bag that would probably feed three grown men. I was just too worried he’d be hungry — but the lunch bag barely fit in his backpack!

    I admit I got a little weepy :).

Looks like a great lunch. This is year two for us with the Balanced School day. It takes a bit of getting used to. My baby started grade 3 today! AHHHHHH.

He is so lucky to have such a wonderful mom who cares so much, you are doing a wonderful job. Try to savour the moments time does fly quickly

LOL at overpacking the lunch box. I did the same thing with Tristan when he did full day Kindergarten. I now know that much food would last him a week! Especially when there is so much visiting to do at lunchtime!!

I guarantee you will watch the clock incessantly tomorrow. I can also guarantee that an extra special after school snack will go much farther in your efforts to have him share his day with you. So many of my friends say their kids never share anything about their day at school, so I make sure I have a good bribe, er, um, snack ready to go as soon as he gets home.

And yes….Apple will be lonely. But fear not, they will lovingly be at each others throats with in moments of his backpack hitting the floor 🙂
