What a Difference a Day Makes!

Thank you everyone for all your thoughtful comments.  I took my own advice and chilled myself out last night.  After I posted I put aside my project for the night and went to bed.  I was asleep by 9:20pm.  As Apple had fallen asleep early I was expecting a rough night but, she had one of her better ones.

I got a solid two hours of sleep before she woke for the first time.  Then another three hours  and finally the killer 4am came, fed and went.  When she finally awoke for the day Hubby was running late and J was still sleeping.  It was a good night.  Both Apple and J looked an acted so much better today, but to be on the safe side I took J to the Doctor’s and sure enough he has pink eye.  As we have never had it in our house I was feeling badly that he went to school yesterday, but he has been really great about not touching his eyes and when I talked to one of the other Moms she laughed at me and said, “It happens”.  Apparently her eldest son has had it every year he has been in school.  Man that would suck.

Thankfully I have had the sanitizer our and J has been ‘cleaning’ his hands everytime he sneezed, coughed or touched his face.  It became a little game.  J would say, “Just a drop, I only need a drop”.  So far Apple, myself nor Hubby has it and A wanted to come for dinner tonight so it is his own fault if he gets goopy.  Oh yes, and my Mom who was with us yesterday doesn’t have it either.  So all my tissue wiping and hand sanitizing seems to be working.

All that said, I have to laugh at myself that I woke up with a kink in my neck.  Hubby thinks it was from spending so much time on my pillow, ha, ha, ha.  And when we went to the Doctor’s my foot slipped on ice when I was lifting Apple’s car seat out of the truck and I pulled a muscle in my butt.  Which made walking difficult today, but funny at the same time.

Speaking of kink.  Did anyone see Ray Davies perform on Regis and Kelly yesterday?  I got chills listening to him, remembering when  I used to listen to the Kinks.  It was neat to see as I am not a regular watcher, but tuned in for a minute while feeding Apple.  It was great.

Thanks again everyone, I truly feel better today, maybe even just writing about how exhausted I was made me feel better, that happens sometimes.

Random Moments of Exhaustion

This is very hard for me to admit. But, I am exhausted.  So much so that this post almost didn’t happen.  Due to the new watermarks on the photos it takes an extra ten minutes or more to get them ready.  So yes, back to the exhaustion.  I am done.  I know it is party my own fault because I have been trying to keep myself busy and get lots of projects done, but I just have to take a small step back.

Apple has been going, going, going and J has been demanding every free moment for him, totally understandable.  I feel terrible that J and I don’t get to spend as much quality time together as we used to  so when Apple does go to sleep I try and do the fun stuff that he loves.  Like baking cookies for Daddy.  Which is fun, but oh so fattening and tiresome.

Apple is getting her teeth.  Yes, she is not quite as good as her brother was.  She has been waking up every hour to hour and a half and this morning?  She was up at 4am.  Just too early.  I gave up at 5:30am and came down for coffee.   Top that off with the fact that J has a goopy eye and a cold, means that everything is twice as hard as usual.  Hubby is also working late tonight so here I am typing away when I should be running around cleaning this joint up.

I think I will take a break from my projects and regroup, which of course means I will be back at it in a few days but for today, you get a little whine from me.  Hope you don’t mind.

Family Day!

Yesterday was our (Ontario, Canada) first ever Family Day.  A Statutory holiday in February!  Now, I know there are so many people who wrote all sorts of stuff about what a waste Family Day was and why couldn’t it be in the summer, etc., etc.  You are not going to hear that from me here, no way.

For so many years when I was out in the workforce, I heard nothing but grumblings about how there were no long weekends between New Year’s and Easter.  Except for the March break, there was nothing to keep you going during the winter.  I for one, wish that I had had Family Day way back when.  Well, when I didn’t have a Family.   I wish I had that long weekend to make winter not seem so bad.  Our American cousins have the best deal, Martin Luther King  Day in January and President’s Day (which coincided with our Family Day) in February.  The best way to get through the drabbest (for a large portion of North America) months of the year.  Actually our American cousins also have Veterans Day in November, which is no longer a Stat for us (it was no longer a holiday when I was in grade seven) and Columbus Day in October.  Hmmm… wait a minute….  I really think I am living in the wrong Country now, you guys seem to have as many holidays as France!

Oh yes, Family Day.  Despite the fact that Hubby had to work, his company was not closed for the Stat, despite most others being closed,  he had to grab his bus as usual.  I was thankful though as it meant that we didn’t have to do the dual walk two hours apart.  It was great!  J and I lounged around in our PJ’s, a true luxury, until 9am.   Apple was miserable due to her pending teeth so it was nice that we didn’t have to do anything we didn’t want to.   J even had a choice as to whether or not he wanted to go to gymnastics.  He opted for it and was thrilled that his best friend’s Dad was there to watch.

All in all Family Day was a big hit around here, we even got a visit in with my Sister and her kids so happiness was abound.  My only wish is that the holiday had not been called Family Day.  I think that is part of the reason so many people had nothing good to say about it, that and it was a little disorganized (some stores were open, some closed).  But, for us it was a great day.  I think we will consider it Louis Riel day, just like our neighbors in Manitoba did, they chose to honour the founder of Manitoba on this day and it apparently was a hit out there.

I’m always game for another holiday, even though it does mean an extra dose of work around the house.

p.s.  I also tried out my scanner on Family Day!  Check out BeachMama on her bike!!!
