Anniversary Giveaway

Next week on J’s last day of Junior Kindergarten, I will be celebrating my third anniversary in blogging. I was first introduced to blogging by my friend Danigirl, who was a closet blogger (to those of us that knew her in real life) for a little while, then she let it out that she started her blog. Now, Dani is a writer. She should be writing books but, instead spends her days writing for our Government. What they ever did to deserve her talent is a wonder to me. All that aside, I started reading her blog. From there, I found Ann Douglas’s blog (which was a thrill for me because I had all of Ann’s books at the time and loved her even though I didn’t really know her. Now I know her and love her even more) and from Ann, I found Secret Agent Josephine. And I think most of you know that I just love SAJ for her cleverness, craftiness and all around able to pull one out of the hatness (I know that isn’t a word, but it’s my blog story so I can make up a word if I want to).

These three women kept me going through some of my earliest morning wakings with J. What to do at four o’clock in the morning with a two year old??? Answer, TV and a laptop. Then, they kept me going when I just needed to check out for a while. Through their blogs I found countless others and officially became an addict. After a while, I wanted to put something out there to offer back for all those who offered so much to me. But, what do I do? Although I always wanted to write, I never considered myself a writer. What would I write about? My life is so boring. Well, blogging has helped me in both of those areas. Being a Mom is wonderful, but it surely can let you get stale in your thoughts or writing abilities, so blogging has helped keep my mind fresh and skills up to date. It has also helped me find the fun things in our day or if there aren’t enough of them to start making time for some fun things. I have shared with you happy times and sad times and some pretty boring times. So, in light of all of it, I have decided to host my first ever Giveaway.

I have been trying to figure out what to offer. Something sewn, something knit, something to eat??? Then I realized, I should give away one of my photographs. It won’t take me too much time, I already have them printed and sitting on my piano (I wanted to see how they would turn out blown up to an 8×10 size) and I have always wanted to give the gift of photography so here it is. This is your chance.

All you have to do is leave a comment telling me which one of the four photographs you would like. That is it, that is all. Next Wednesday, June 25th on my actual Anniversary of starting this blog, I will put all entrants names into a bowl and draw a winner.

Thank you all for stopping by and spending a little time at the beach. And don’t forget… there is always a little sand in your happy place.

Please note: The photos were slightly cropped when I made the mosaic, you will see a little more of the flowers in the actual photograph.

Water, water everywhere

Now that the heat wave has passed (for now) the pool is up and ready to go.  We think this is the last year for the take-down pool.  Not only is it a bit of a pain, but it is time to go permanent.   We have had these kind of pools for six years now, they are wonderful and I can’t say enough great things about them.  But, the time has come.  That being said, we will see what next year brings.

J decided all on his own that it was ok to get soaking wet in his clothes, since it was bedtime we didn’t stop him.  He tried desparatedly to get his father wet, but sadly he was the only one.

I am going to do a bit of a rush post here because I just can’t seem to get enough time in the day to post and this is two days in the making.  And we have so much going on that I have another two or three posts stuck in my head already.  Time to set aside time for me again.

Since the pool was still filling up yesterday.  J had his best friend over and I couldn’t let them go in, so I let them have a waterfight instead.  J had his trusty sponges, something he has been asking me for forever and I couldn’t understand why… until now…, and I set out two buckets of water and a sprinkler.  The two of them ran around throwing water and having a blast.  Then to top it off they cleaned the play structure!  Nothing I love more then watching my son have fun with his friends.   I will admit that I rewarded them with some sugar lollipops but, it was all worth it.

And just for fun I took a photo of Apple and I using the back door as a mirror.  We were out there, enjoying the water fun, but I was hot.  Carrying her in the carrier on a hot sweaty day outside is no fun at all.  At least we weren’t stuck inside.

On to more fun again today!

32 Degrees

Which is 89.6 degrees on the farenheit scale.  With the humidex it was 41C, which works out to be 105.8F.  And on this, the first hot, hot, sweltering Saturday of the summer we did not one but two outdoor activities.

First was J’s first day of soccer.  Now, Hubby and I consider ourselves mildly athletic. So by putting that together, J should be a pretty good athlete.  And so far, he is a shining star (at soccer, he didn’t do so well with the gymnastics).  His abilities seem to run along the lines of hockey, football and soccer so far.  He is great with his hands and feet in such a way that he has a wicked slapshot and a fabulous arm.  And so far, so good, his kick is dead on.

Here is a shot of him doing some of his skills training (should I admit that I took 250 photos?  Some were of his best buddy, who ended up on the same team).

And then, as if that wasn’t hot enough, Hubby and I packed the kids back up into the truck and headed over to our first ever local running event.  Originally I was going to do the 5K and Hubby the 10K, but I was a little nervous to push the kids and run 5K by myself, I didn’t think I could do it with both of them in the stroller and Hubby hadn’t been training at all so he didn’t want to run the full 10. Apple is no sweat, but J!  He is 55lbs, so I would have been pushing a little much.

It was Hubby’s idea that we do the family fun run/walk.  It was 2.5k.  In the end, with the heat and humidity it turned out to be the perfect length.   J even got out and ran for a bit, but as soon as he slowed us down Hubby had him jump back in the stroller.  There was a tot trot too, but since it was so hot we skipped it for fear that J would be melting and Apple would get heat stroke.

The best part was that this was our first time doing sports together as a family.  A was missing, but he probably wouldn’t have wanted to come, being 16 and all.  I look forward to a few more of these it was really fun getting out, the four of us.
