Commitment Update

Remember when I made a commitment to lose 20lbs?  Well, I am happy to update that I am down 4lbs, only 16 more to go!

Yes, it isn’t moving as quickly as I would like, but it is Winter after all.  Not only have I cut back my snacking and eating again, which got out of control over Christmas, but I have stepped up my exercise.

I walk J to school twice a day, this is a slow ten minute walk that drives me crazy because I prefer to walk twice that fast. But it is still a walk.  One way both times I get a faster walk in.  Except on those very freezing cold days of course, I drive, as I don’t want Apples skin to freeze.

I have been doing planks every day in hopes to get my stomach muscles toned up. As truthfully, this is the one area that is worse than it has ever been.  Having being pregnant and having major surgery only three months before getting pregnant with Apple was rough on my abs.  They never recovered from the surgery due to complications.  If I only do one thing this year for me, it would be to get the abs toned up again.

I have also been running whenever I get a chance.  Today I ran 4k.  I was aiming for 5k but, my treadmill was still on the Imperial setting (which I thought I had changed earlier) and I was wondering why I was only at 2.5 at the 30 minute mark so I went five more minutes and bailed thinking I must be off today.  As it turned out, I was right on and had I continued a little longer, I would have had my full 5k.  The treadmill has been updated correctly and hopefully I won’t be so confused next time.

I will be adding another favorite exercise tomorrow, will share with you on my next update.

A Forgotten Day

I completely forgot that we went tobogganing last Sunday. And I say ‘we’ loosely as Hubby and J actually went down the hill, while I had Apple on my back in the backpack carrier.  It was a little colder than we expected, but a nice time was had by all.

This is a self-portrait, which includes Apple in the backpack.  She was quite happy to be bouncing along, but if I stopped bouncing, she made sure to remind me by jumping up and down.  Not so easy on the back.

Here they go down the hill.  Sadly, I have yet to get a turn down the hill.  Whenever we have gone, I have either been pregnant, newly unpregnant or carrying a baby on my back.  Go figure, since I used to spend every possible winter day tobogganing with my best friend on a hill behind his house when I was a kid.  Hmmmm…. now that I am remembering how much fun I used to have in the Winter, I am wondering when I switched to such a summer girl.  It must have been after that first big trip to the beach, the first one I remember going in the ocean.

My Little Snow Bunny.  Her cheeks were so red, but she did not want to take her snowsuit off.  This is what she wears every morning to go to school and drop off and pick up J. She loves it.

And that is my forgotten day, I just can’t believe I forgot all about it until I downloaded the photos from the camera.

Happy Inauguration Day!

Dear President Obama,

As our Country watched you become the 44th President of The United States, we were excited, happy, in awe and celebrating.  What can I even say really?  Your speech was uplifting, encouraging and well said.  You brought tears to my eyes more than once and I am so happy to know that you will be taking care of my Family to the South.

Even more touched that you have Vice-President Biden by your side.  Vice-President Biden has taken wonderful care of my favourite State for so many years, that I know he will do a great job.

Congratulations to both of you, you have a tough road ahead, but it is quite obvious that you are the best men for the job.

Rumur has it, President Obama, that you will make your first official visit to my fair Country very soon.  We are thrilled to hear that you have chosen to come here first as we do share the world’s largest undefended border.  And for this reason is very important that we remain strong friends.

As I live in the Nation’s Capital, it would be a thrill for me to get out and see the crowds, but with two young children and a bus strike that may possibly still be on, it just might not be possible.

I do have one favour to ask of you, if you don’t mind. While you are here, do you think you can inspire Prime Minister Harper to rally the same kind of enthusiasm for our Country as you have for yours?  He is a good leader, but somehow Canadians as a whole, whether they support Prime Minister Harper or not, do not get as enthusiastic.  We don’t have parties and galas surrounding the swearing in of the Prime Minister, well, that isn’t true, there are a couple but they aren’t televised and nobody cares if they served the same lunch that was served to Prime Minister King on the same dishes.

But, we cared today.  We cared what you ate, what you and your beautiful wife wore,  I know that you were served the same lunch as President Lincoln was served and that it was served on his dishes.  I know more about your Inauguration today than I do of the last ten here in Canada.  And I vote, each and every time!

There were parties galore, in pubs, bars, restaurants and homes.  Canadians were partying it up for you President Obama, how can we turn it over so that we are partying it up for our Prime Minister and our Country?  If you can impart this wisdom on your visit here, I would be forever grateful.

Thank you for your time,  congratulations again,

Sincerely,

BeachMama
