Day 2: Cupcake Kindness

Day 2 of Seven Days found me volunteering at the Ottawa Mission for their Annual Christmas Dinner. Some fabulous Ladies organized for 3000 cupcakes to be delivered to the Mission for dinner. In addition to organizing volunteers to donate cupcakes, they also took donations to try to match dollar for dollar the amount donated in cupcakes.
Day 2: Cupcake Kindness

To be honest, I have never volunteered at the Mission before.  I feel terrible that I haven’t.  I used to work at a restaurant just down the street and several of my regulars would stay at the Mission when times were tough.  Or if they didn’t stay they knew someone who did.  Over the years since I left that restaurant (it has been 11 years since I worked there, but feels like yesterday) I have run into several of the guys or have seen them on tv talking about how much the Mission has given them over the years.  It felt good today to help out and be a part of something bigger.

CupcakeKindessCupcakes were everywhere, they looked lovely, divine even, but more oh so much more than the cupcakes was the kitchen.  The staff that works there (some every day some once a week) have the opportunity to work in one of the best equipped kitchens I have ever seen.  Not only that, but it was the best smelling kitchen, oh my.  Turkey, gravy and garlic mashed potatoes, what an amazing job they do every single day.  I feel very Blessed that I had the chance to help out even for just a few hours and hopefully I will be able to do it again.

Thank you to Josée from The Cakery for organizing such a wonderful day and allowing me to be a part of it.

Hey Anna, That mom and daughter you photographed are my sis and niece.

I enjoyed making the cupcakes for yesterday (I donated 24 green ones) and it turned into a way to talk to the boys about people less fortunate. Interesting conversation.

    Take Care

It was so awesome to help out and donate over 300 cupcakes on behalf of Way Better Cakes & Candies By Michelle Graham and over 400 in total w/ the help of a few good friends. 🙂 I’m looking forward to helping out again next yr. Feels great to help out those who need a little pick me up at Christmas.
PS ~ I love the photos you took of my cupcakes. In the 2nd set of pics, all the pics on the left side from top to bottom are mine and the bottom left corner. Would you be able to forward me the copies?

That is so great, Anna! I’d love to do this, as well as volunteer photography services somewhere locally.

PS. How did you make those collages rounded like that? 🙂
