For several years now I have dreamed of living in this beach house. It is next door to the one that we have rented for the past four years. The yellow brick and white trim have taunted me, begging me to come inside. When you walk by you can see the beautiful chairs on the porch and the long table in the sun room, everything I have ever wanted in a beach house is here in this yellow house.
So think of my joy and surprise when we pull up this year to see that the Yellow House is actually for sale. By Joy I mean, if I won the lottery. And by surprise I mean, the family that owns it actually lives there for the summer and does not rent it. So it was a shock.
Every day the Real Estate Agent would fill up the information box on the For Sale sign. And every day the papers would be gone by noon. Imagine the excitement I felt on Wednesday on returning from the Beach that I saw there was an Open House. Usually, I am not one to go to open houses. Hubby will visit all the houses in the neighbourhood when they go up for sale but not me. This was my chance, my chance to dream big. With my Sister in tow, we headed over (after our showers of course). The hefty $1,695,000.00 price tag did not stop me. Instead I was honest with the Agent. I told her I did not have the money, but if I won the lottery, I would be first in line. She did not mind at all, in fact most people who were looking were all sandy from the beach and just as curious as I was. Truth be told, I almost cried.
The furnishings are all included and the decor was straight out of a magazine. In fact, they were in Cottage Style Magazine (no longer in print) for their great use of space and decor. There are two full bathrooms and two half bathrooms. Three bedrooms and attic (with three double beds) and a basement (unheard of so close to the beach) with bunk beds and a play room that walks out to the spacious back yard. There is a back deck and a front porch both of which I can see myself sitting on relaxing with a coffee.
I don’t know if my ship will come in in time to make the purchase, but a girl sure can dream. Can’t she??
After all the craziness of the week before, and the fact that our Internet was not working properly, I had to leave you all hanging yet again. I was hoping for wireless at our beach house this year but it just didn’t happen. So, fear not, I am still around just rejuvenated from a week at my favorite beach, some quality family time with Hubby and the kids and a visit from my youngest Sister who lives in Charlotte, NC.
There was a little bitter-sweetness to our trip this year because my Uncle (In-Law) who has welcomed us year after year into his home while we trek to the beach was in the hospital. He went in for surgery before we left and complication after complication has kept him in intensive care. I was able to visit and tell him how much we love him and pray for a full recovery. And my Aunt who would never say no to a visit had some peach pie ready and waiting along with the pecan and blueberry pie and chocolate rocky road cake (for Hubby who doesn’t like pie as much).
We did make a major decision this year and one that I am more than happy to accommodate, we have decided to go for two weeks next year. Hooray!!! We are already planning and looking forward to our return.
I will leave you with a photo of my Sister and I on the beach, note the umbrella with the Canadian Maple leaves in the background, yes that is our umbrella. And as much as it was fun to be away, it is always great to come home.

Book your summer beach vacation.

Yesterday we had yet another snowstorm. Argh. The January thaw that saw us wearing spring jackets and tickling out toes in the grass was just too good to be true. We got at least another 15cm yesterday, I missed the official count because I was out shoveling. I didn’t have to shovel, Hubby would have done it, but I wanted the break from the kids climbing all over me. I did take J and the dogs out with me but, he climbed the mountain of snow instead of me.

As I was feeling sorry for myself that I lived in such a snow laden climate, I decided what better way to make it though the next bout of winter than to ensure that our wonderful annual beach vacation was booked solid. The agent called in December and our usual house was not available the week of July 4th, so we waited to book while we decided on the week. When I called yesterday our house was open from the 5th so we booked it with plans to stay with my family for the 4th. Yay!!
It won’t be long beach, until we meet again…
