Craftiness

In keeping with the handmade tradition that I started last year, I have been working feverishly on a handmade gift that I finally finished!  Yahoo!  And this is why I have not been paying enough attention to my blog lately.  I committed myself to finish this caplet and I needed every spare minute and then some.  I think it turned out great.  If only I had uploaded the photo and realized that I was not in focus before I packaged it up and sent it off.  Either way you get the essense of the caplet.  It took me seven days to knit.  Non-stop knitting (as in during naps, and evenings, only stopping long enough to get in my reading time before bed) but alas it is finished.  I think it turned out well and can’t wait to see it on the person it was intended for.   Now, back to my pumpkin hats.  I have another order of four to do up before I can even think of doing some more for my shop.  I guess next year I will start much earlier if I want to really stock up on them.

My next handmade gift is a gift close to my heart.  I gave the gift of my photography.  I know this has been my life long dream to be a photographer, but I truly wanted to start giving some of my photography as gifts because it is the reason I take photos to begin with, to share with others.  So these too were packaged up today and sent off, both are the same photo, but because they are framed differently they look a little different.  I hope to keep on with my new tradition of handmade gifts and am already organizing my Christmas list.

And just because we were laughing and having fun the other day, here are two happy photos of J and Apple.  I am so blessed with happy kids that I just had to share.

Busy Weekend

This weekend saw a few projects finished and a few new additions to our house.

Apple’s baby blanket.  I finally finished it!  I started it in January and finished the last trim this past weekend.  And before anyone says anything, I know that babies aren’t supposed to sleep on their tummies, but both my kids do.  I tried my best to have back sleepers but, by eight weeks it was evident that they were tummy sleepers.  Apple with her reflux slept in my arms for almost eight weeks exclusively.  J was better, but looking back he probably had a bit of reflux too.  Nothing severe enough for medication, but enough that they couldn’t sleep on their backs.  And both my kids were rolling onto their tummies at six weeks, that and the fact that I have a mattress monitor helps me sleep, while they are sleeping.

Round two of cake pops.  I found some cream cheese icing ( I think the two stores I looked at were full of it when they said it wasn’t available in Canada) and they formed much better into balls and the dipping in chocolate was so much easier.  I finished them yesterday morning for a dinner we were having with my parents and they are all gone today.  Surprised?  I didn’t think so.  But, that is the end of my baking for  a while.  I just can’t resist the temptation right now, so alas back to fruit for dessert.

And finally, la piece de resistance.  Our new fridge!!  I have been waiting a long, long time for this fridge.  This is what I wanted ten years ago when I got my last fridge.  It broke when we moved into this house three years ago.  But, hubby was able to fix it.  It was never the same again.  With our milk and produce freezing all the time, and the freezer being  unreliable at actually freezing the time had come for a new fridge.  And I love it.  I drink so much water and to have it cold and filtered at the ready is wonderful.  And the space for food, unbelievable.  We have one whole shelf that is empty right now, unheard of in our old fridge.

I can’t wait to see what is in store for next weekend!

One More Day

I just need one more day to load my Etsy shop.  I am technically ready, but since I waited until evening to take the photos of the stuff, they don’t look the greatest.  I really don’t enjoy the attached flash on my camera.  Great in a pickle, but not so great when doing stuff like this.  So, I would prefer to take the photos in the natural light tomorrow, as I did for the photo above.  Those were the Coffee Cozies I sent off to Charlotte.

In the meantime, the shop is ready.  Although the little intro blurb I wrote the other night didn’t save, so I will have to go back in a put it up again.  Take a look, let me know what you think.  Life is Good … At the Beach .
