I was recently asked to review A Zombie Ate My Cupcake by Lily Vanilli. I have to admit that at first I thought it was a children’s book with recipes intertwined, however, it is not. It is simply a fabulous recipe book, full of all sorts of ghoulish cupcakes to serve for Halloween or any other scary party one might want to have. And it is for children of all ages, even those who go to work every day.
I had to at least try a recipe before telling you that I loved it. I mean I love the idea of all these fabulous cupcakes and the recipes look wonderful, but I still had to try it out.
I decided to try the red velvet because I have never made red velvet before. Together with the buttercream icing, they were a huge hit in our house. The recipe was simple to follow and the instructions for decorating seem quite doable. I am also looking forward to trying the pecan, nutmeg and cinnamon cupcakes, they sound like a nice Fall treat.
Take a sneak peek at some of these funky and fun recipes:
And the best part is that I get to give one away to one of my readers! Yay! Thomas Allen and Son Publishing has offered a book to me and one to giveaway. All you have to do is leave me a comment telling me your favorite cupcake flavour. A winner will be randomly selected and announced on Thursday, October 14th at noon.

Favourite flavour hands down is chocolate with chocolate icing. And maybe some candy sprinkles! 🙂
My personal favourite is lemon poppyseed with lemon icing (using real lemon juice and icing sugar) with whatever sprinkles are available. 🙂
Ooh, Ooh, count me in, and let me cheat a little bit. Ever since eating the Red Velvet Cheesecake at the Cheesecake Factory, I have been on the hunt for a good Red Velvet cake recipe for my son and I. Please count me in!!!
I like a combination…lemon/chocolate icing. Or banana frosting with spice. But in the end I am not choosy I like them all 😉
Cupcake cookbook? Yes please! My favorite cupcake flavor is probably either lemon with cream cheese frosting, or spice cupcakes with browned-butter frosting.
Hands down..Pumpkin spice with cream cheese icing
The book looks like loads of fun!
I love carrot. And I love reading dessert cookbooks. I mean, I like to bake from them too. But most of all I like to look at them!
Cupcakes are about as ambitious as I get with baking. Unless cookies count. There are hundreds of flavours and combinations which I love to read and look at and be inspired by. In the end, I tend to seek out anything chocolate related.
I love red velvet cupcakes.I’ve never made them cause I’ve never had a recipe. Yours looks so good! 🙂
I love cupcakes! Any kind. I think I love vanilla with buttercream icing the best. Mmm.
I’ve been drooling over these since I saw them in your stream. And while I haven’t met a cupcake I didn’t like, I do have to say, at the risk of sounding like I’m sucking up, that Red Velvet is my all-time favorite cake. I will travel miles for it!
I’ve never heard of Red Velvet – will have to try that. I have a zucchini chocolate cake recipe that makes great cupcakes. And I’d love a new cookbook. 🙂
My fave is very childlike, Rainbow Chip. I’m a kid at heart!
