With Honour

We have returned from Delaware.  My Uncle was given a military burial as he served in the Army.  I feel blessed that I got to share this time with my Cousins who just lost their father.  And with my Aunt who has lost, not only the love of her life, but her Right Hand Man. My Father spoke at the service, which we would like to say was a celebration of his life.  My Father, who has only shed a few tears in my lifetime, had a hard time keeping his composure while telling everyone how much it meant that his Brother in Law loved him and his siblings and welcomed them with open arms.  When my Cousin asked if anyone wished to say a few words, several friends came up and another of our Cousins as well has his two children.  I felt that this was the time for me, to speak up and tell everyone else how much I loved him.  So, I did.  I made it through with only a few tears and a great big smile.  I knew if I did not share it then that the moment would be gone forever.   He will be missed.

There are a few of us missing in this photo, but this is pretty much half of our family.  Growing up, we would vacation at the beach together in one big house.  Now that we all have children, there would not be a house big enough to house us all for a week at least not with all of us leaving with our sanity.  My Father (the man in the middle) has three brothers and three sisters and this photo represents them well.

My Sister and her family traveled from Regina (by plane thankfully), and another of my Sister’s was already spending a week at the beach with my Youngest Sister (who took these photos, well not this last one, but it was her camera) coming up from Charlotte like she did a month ago.  So Hubby and I took three days in a hotel to be able to spend time with them and their kids.  It was wonderful to get together at our favorite beach.  We had good weather and good food and the kids had a wonderful time.   We actually got back on Thursday night, but I have been in party planning mode for two days as it is J’s birthday party tomorrow with his actual birthday on Monday.  I am sure to be exhausted but, hope to remember to take a few photos of the day.

It sounds like your uncle was buried with honor and lots of love. I think it’s great that you were able to stand up and speak at his funeral. I’ve always thought that would be extremely difficult.

    Hugs to you, my dear!

What a tribute to your uncle! Even without ever meeting him, I can tell what a honorable, special man he was. His legacy lives on. I am glad this was a time of bonding with family as you said goodbye.

So sorry about your uncle. Sounds like the service was lovely. Quite a tribute.

Glad you were able to enjoy some time at the beach with family.

Funerals can be difficult. I’m glad you got some time at the beach with the family.

Funerals, life celebrations, all of it — they are so difficult. The toughest times, however, are when life goes back to “normal” and all the grieving really sets in. I wish you and your entire family the best during this time. You know your Uncle will be with all of you!

My grandfather had a military send-off. Nothing like a 21 gun salute to get those tears flowing!

How great to have so many sisters! I was an only child, I always wanted a sister.

Welcome back. It sounds as though your family had a wonderful service celebrating your Uncle. Loss is so hard but with a large loving family it seems be a little easier, maybe.

Best of thoughts to you, your sisters, cousins and aunt during this difficult time.

Hope J has a great birthday party!

I would not have been able to do that. Your one strong lady.
Glad to see you and your sisters had some time together.
    Hugs
